Cycle Routes on old Railway Lines

Godley Junction, Hyde.

This disused railway was once a vital artery to the Woodhead route. It allowed a connection from the Woodhead route to Warrington and Liverpool, via the CLC line through Stockport (Tiviot Dale).

The link line was closed around the early 1980s when the Woodhead route closed. Since it has been converted in to a cycle and pathway.

To make a full ride of it I took the Manchester to Ashton canal and the Peak forest canal to get to the start of the link at Gee Cross.

A plesent ride, there is a lot of industrial heritage to been seen and there are also some pleasent views.

The Fallowfield Loop

Now converted in to dedicated cycle route and walk way. Very clearly marked and signposted. This is a great route for all weather riding and is also away from busy roads.

Approximately 12 miles round trip from Debdale Park. Fully paved route with only a small section of road riding. Most of the route is in a cutting.

It was originally a rail link to the Woodhead route to Sheffield from the West side of Manchester and the old Central station.

The Deadline - Reddish Vale, Stockport

A cycle route starting from Houldsworth Sq, Reddish. Going via the Reddish Vale visitor centre, taking the old railway line to Stockport (now converted in to pathway), and back through the roads of Brinnington.

Approximately 8-9 miles round trip. This is an easy ride with one big incline, the paths are well maintained, but can be muddy when wet. Some road riding.

Great views across the Tame valley in Reddish. Also some original railway infrastructure visable and ridable.

The Fallowfield Loop 2

The North end of the Fallowfield loop - where the line met the Woodhead route. This part of the route has been filled in and a small cycle route has been built.

We found some original railway infrastructure in this area.
